What items does Browns accept?

We lend against gold, platinum and diamond jewellery.
This includes gold and diamond rings, bracelets, necklaces, coins, pendants, earrings, charms, chains, brooches, cufflinks, pins and any other jewellery. While we focus on gold you can also send us items containing other precious metals such platinum and palladium.
We are also able to lend securely against fine art and antiques - we have specialists with expertise. Please contact us for further information.

How do I send my jewellery to Browns?

It couldn't be simpler. Request your FREE Royal Mail special delivery bag by filling out the form on our website. Once you have received the bag, insert your jewellery, secure the bag and take it to the post office.  We have already paid the postage for you.

How do Browns decide how much I will get?

Browns are able to pay a better price to you than most companies because of our extensive second hand jewellery business. This means that we can pay more because we have more options with your jewellery.  We weigh each different carat of gold individually to reach the best price for you.

What do I do if my gold isn't hallmarked?

Don't worry. Our trained staff will perform a simple test to determine whether your item is gold. If it's not gold, we will return it to you.

What if the jewellery is damaged or broken?

This is not a problem because we shall try to repair the jewellery for re-sale to get a better price or alternatively value the items based on their weight and gold carat.

What are the costs and other fees?

None. The envelope sent to you is free of charge with insurance and postage paid. Our jewellery return guarantee includes no additional costs.

Is safe to send my jewellery in the post?

Yes, it is insured up to the value of £500. For a small charge of £2.50, we could insure the bag for a further £2000 to a total of £2500 to give you more peace of mind.

How will I receive my money?

By cheque sent to you first class in the post. Alternatively, you can use our cheque cashing service and we will send cash to you by secure special delivery.

An insurance company valued my jewellery for £500; Will I receive that amount from Browns?

Insurance companies will value your jewellery based on "retail replacement value." In other words, what will it cost to replace your jewellery if it is lost or stolen?  An insurance valuation does not take into account the value of gold itself so you may receive more or less than your valuation.

What about diamonds and other gemstones?

We accept diamonds, rubies, sapphires, emeralds and most other precious gems. The amount you receive depends upon the second hand resale value of the item.

Are there any items you do not purchase?

We do not purchase silver or costume jewellery or items not containing precious metals.

What watches do you loan against?

We lend against most leading brands including Rolex, Cartier, Tag Hauer, Omega and Brietling

What kind of art do you loan against?

We lend against fine art, porcelain and antique furniture. Browns pawnbrokers have specialists in each field who are able to provide an accurate valuation so that your valuables can be used as security for an instant cash loan. Please contact us for further information.
